Poker is a card game in which the players compete for money. The object of the game is to have the highest hand at the end of a betting round. Each player has two personal cards, which are dealt face up, and five community cards. The dealer reveals these cards, and each player must use them to make the best five-card hand.<\/p>\n
The highest possible hand in poker is a royal flush, which is made from ace, king, queen, Jack, and ten of the same suit. The next highest hands are straight flushes, four of a kind, full house, and flush.<\/p>\n
Poker players begin a hand by placing a bet in the pot (called an opening bet or ante) according to the rules of the variant being played. They may raise their bets to add more money to the pot, or they may fold.<\/p>\n
If a player decides to raise, the other players must say “call” or “fold” in turn. The betting round ends when all active players have bet an equal amount.<\/p>\n
When no opponents call, the player who raised wins the pot. If the player raising bets a higher amount, the bets of the other players are added to the original amount.<\/p>\n
