Poker is a card game played between two or more players and involves betting on the outcome of a hand. A player can either bet money into the pot when it is his turn or fold his hand. The player who has the highest hand wins. Poker is a game of skill, and in the long run the best players will always win.<\/p>\n
There are a number of different poker variations. However, most poker games are played with six or eight players. Each player places their bets (usually chips, which represent money) into a central pot. After a shuffle, the dealer deals cards to each player. The first player to the left of the dealer begins the betting interval.<\/p>\n
A player\u2019s cards are dealt face up or face down, depending on the variant of poker being played. The player to the left of each player makes a forced bet (usually an ante or blind bet). Other players may decide to make a bet, called raising. If a player has a strong hand, they can raise in order to force weaker hands into folding and increase the size of their pot.<\/p>\n
The game also teaches players how to read their opponents. This is important because much of the game is based on guessing what your opponent has in his hand.
